Abandon Self Neglect

rootedinmystrength

The chaos of daily life can easily swallow us, especially with glorified grind culture grinding us down. It can be so easy to let other things take priority over ourselves and our self care. But when we abandon self care, we neglect ourselves. Read on to abandon self neglect.

Self care is central to a holistic lifestyle

Self neglect can be insidious, a sneaky intruder. Often I tell myself I can put of taking care of myself for another time, that other tasks are more important than keeping my mind and body strong. One time turns into five turns into ten. Eventually I'm back at square one, feeling just a little defeated, foolish even.

That's where we start, find just one activity that feeds you. Journaling is a popular method of self care that is accessible to most people. Finding journaling prompts online can be a fun way to start, and if you want to get fancy with it, there are plenty of journaling styles to choose from like bullet journaling. Really all you need is a space to get down your thoughts and at least five minutes to write every day. If journaling doesn't quite fit maybe choosing a form of exercise would feel better. Neuroscience supports the idea of "shaking off" stress and tension out of our bodies. Exercise is also so great to give concentration and self-awareness a boost. It is best practice to chat with a medical health professional before starting any new exercise routine.

Getting still and quiet with a meditation practice is a great choice for anyone wanting to feel grounded and centered. Meditation can increase concentration, self-awareness, feelings of confidence, and support new habits by building fresh neural pathways in the brain. Like journaling, meditation comes in a wide variety and you get to choose your method, but really you just need about five minutes a day to see positive changes.

Setting aside time to treat yourself, no matter what it looks like to you, is so important to a holistic lifestyle. Without a strong foundation, any changes you want to make will not stick. That's where my Metanoia Initiative can help. Members enjoy a custom program centered on creating lasting habits based on goals to shift into a holistic lifestyle. Included in this program are tools members can use to support their journey. Journal prompts and a Journey Kit with up to three artisan aromatherapy blends are just a few tools available to Metanoia members.

Aromatherapy is a great way to support any change, and German Chamomile (Matricaria recutia) is a great oil to use to let go of self neglect. German Chamomile has an incredible quality that reduces energetic heat, which can soothe feelings of frustration. This oil is high in Esters, which have a calming effect on the nervous system, meaning German Chamomile can support meditation practices by encouraging grounded feelings. When combined with Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) and Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis), German Chamomile's calming qualities can become enhanced.

You deserve to take care of yourself. You deserve to be kind to yourself. Taking even five minutes will go a long way to feeling calm and grounded as you take on the chaos of daily life. You can do this, I believe in you.
