An Open Letter to Myself

rootedinmystrength

Dear Me,

Wow! What a life we've lived! Looking back we've moved mountains, witnessed miracles, saved lives, and experienced more than we could have possibly imagined. And we're not even half-way though this journey called life.

I am so proud of how far we've come. The future looks so bright, and the path to get there is sure to be an adventure! We have already navigated so many unexpected twists and turns from death to birth. And now we're learning how to maintain boundaries, self care, and navigate difficult scenarios.

I know life has felt overwhelming and burdensome. We've carried plenty of weight we didn't have to and handled situations too big to hold on our own. I know there have been a number of times we felt like the whole world was going to crush us into nothing. We have been through so much, even some moments that felt like the end of the world. And we walked through every single one of them. And learned.

We are growing stronger and braver every day, and showing the sweetest little girl how to face the world with her head held high. Days can still get pretty rough, but now we have the tools to survive through them. I know those days where it feels like we're grasping at straws to get to the next moment, let me assure you those days can and do pass. Remember, it's okay to not be okay- just don't camp in the pain.

A little advice for the road. Don't be afraid to speak up and speak out. Your voice is valuable. Don't worry about pushing people away with your words, if you hear injustice take a stand against it. Keep your chin up and fly your freak flag with pride. Embrace those differences, they'll chase away the people that don't matter and attract your found family. Gone are the wallflower days of ignoring your true self. You are an intelligent, capable, kind person worthy of respect. You are so loved. Don't forget about the little eyes watching your every step- I know it feels like a lot of pressure, teaching your daughter how to stand strong in this world will be the most important mission of your life. Chin up, always. Don't let your crown slip. Use your tools as often as possible. Slow down and enjoy this life. You have actual roses growing in your garden, it would not hurt anything to actually smell them once in a while. Lastly, don't be so hard on yourself. You have this one life to live on this miraculous space rock, and no one really knows what they are doing here. Relax. Sometimes those mistakes turn into wonderful things. You can do this.

Peace to you,

Willow R
