Since starting this journey with essential oils, I have gotten my fair share of questions. Usually those questions revolve around what aromatherapy is and how these products are used. Let me break a few things down.
Despite how it sounds, aromatherapy goes so much deeper than things that smell good. Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment that uses plant extracts to promote health and well-being, aroma therapy uses essential oils to improve the health of the mind, body, and spirit. That might sound like a lot of stuff and nonsense.
To go a little deeper, the word holistic describes looking at the entire body and surrounding factors instead of just looking at complaints. I struggle with intense headaches, instead of just taking over the counter pain killers, if I were to take a holistic approach to reducing my headaches I would take a step back and look at everything. How much water do I drink? What does my screen time look like? Am I exposing myself to a lot of external stimulation? Do I only wear my hear in tight pony tails? How much time do I get outside? What is my stress level? All of these questions are taken into account and that allows me to get to the root of my issue. In this case, my issue happens to be centered around water intake, stress, and sleep.
So how does all of that apply to aromatherapy? In my case I can tackle the stress and sleep issues with two of my own products, The Calm Before and Take Me Away. For me, the lighter notes in The Calm Before help me feel more centered and increase a sense of serenity. So I would choose a roller that I can keep in a pocket or in a bag. At the start of the day I would roll The Calm Before on the inside of my wrist, and during the day I can reapply when I feel I need a boost. Just a few moments to focus on the scent allows me to relax and stay centered throughout the day. Moving on to the sleep issue, I would simply spray Take Me Away on my pillow, sheets, and curtains to encourage deep, restful sleep. The difference between the two being Take Me Away has much deeper notes and a more luxurious scent.
Wait. I said aromatherapy is more than just things that smell nice. This still holds true, while my personal headache issue can be helped with these products, it's not because they smell nice- which they do. It's because of the essential oils these products contain. Both products have oils that have anti-inflammatory, soothing properties. They also are both great for more than soothing frayed nerves. All of my rollers are made with jojoba wax, which mimics oils made by the skin and feels so nice on dry skin. Both The Calm Before and Take Me Away contain essential oils that would support the needs of dry skin.
All of my products are designed to support emotional wellness and are made with all natural ingredients like jojoba wax and Himalayan salt. That said, I'm not selling miracle cures and snake oil. Everything I make can support certain needs, but they are not made to cure, treat, or diagnose any condition. In my case with my headache issue, my products can support certain issues I've found contribute to my headaches but they do not detract from the fact I need to see a healthcare professional. I believe in balance. Everything has its place. Essential oils are powerful tools are our disposal, but they do not replace antibiotics and vaccines.
