Healing: An Essential Tale

rootedinmystrength

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve probably read about my CPTSD and chronic pain, you likely know I’m a single mom. And I’m willing to bet you have more questions. How does it all connect?

When my daughter was still a baby, I noticed I hadn’t gone a single day without taking Ibuprofen in about two months. Not one day. Being a new parent was hard enough, having to remember all of the things babies need to go out into the world was surprisingly difficult, worse yet having to keep track of all the baubles! I barely had room in my brain left to remember that darn bottle to help keep me moving during our outings. Or having to keep track of when I had my last dose. This hurdle is something I am going to have to live with for the rest of my life, and it was already getting to be draining. If I forgot to bring the medication, that meant I couldn’t be as present for my little girl.

Hurdle one, exist in as little pain as possible to stay on top of activities, toys, meals, and souvenirs.

Hurdle two, do it all while in the middle of a panic attack or without dissociating.

I feel it is important at this point to remind everyone dissociation is a normal part of everyone’s lives. We all do it at different times. For me, it can happen when I’m feeling so overwhelmed my body wants to go into fight/ flight/freeze mode. I happen to freeze. It’s all my brain trying to keep me safe when I’m feeling overwhelmed. For me, pain happens to make it very easy for me to feel overwhelmed.

I needed a better solution. Something to calm down the raging pain in my back, and something to calm the raging storm in my head. I decided to go to therapy to sort out my past trauma and learn better coping mechanisms. Mindfulness. What a wonderful tool! Pick something in your environment and study it as closely as possible. This will force the brain into thinking using the frontal lobe (processing) instead of using the alligator brain (instinct). When you can process the world around you, you can start problem solving.

Alright. We have hurdles. We have coping skills. Where does the essential oil come into play?

I’ll save you the tale of how a conversation caused a trigger for me and skip to the part where a good friend of mine dropped a few sweet smelling drops of oil on my hand and told me to focus. The clarity and freedom I felt in that moment is something I believe everyone deserves.

Everyone deserves to feel in control when they are experiencing a trigger. That oil is a blend called Serenity and it’s made by a well known company, doTERRA. Don’t worry, I’m not going to give you a big sales pitch (but if you want to buy it for yourself, hit the link https://doterra.me/GlKFAWPp ). From there I found another blend, Deep Blue (https://doterra.me/bJPQ1pk7 )which is designed to soothe aches and pain in the muscles. And down the rabbit hole I fell.

I have learned so much, and I’m looking forward to learning much more as I continue to study whatever I can, wherever I can, whenever I can. And I cannot wait to share my findings with you, dear reader. I will be releasing new products in the very near future. You can see what I’m offering on the “Products” page of my website.

So now you have the (greatly abridged) tale of how I came across, and now daily use essential oils. I hope you will find the relief you are looking for on your own journey.

Peace to you,

Willow R
