My Top Tips to Break Free from Insecurity

rootedinmystrength

We're going to start the new month with a common battle we all struggle with at some point in our lives. Insecurity. This battle can come in multiple forms, and you can break free from it, let's start the journey.

A Sunlit Forest

Insecurity is something often caused by a traumatic event or a loss, it is toxic to a person by focusing too much on the opinions of others and can take energy and efforts away from other parts of a person's life. Insecurity can also lead to controlling behaviors that may negatively impact relationships. I know I struggle with insecurity on a near daily basis, constantly wondering if I'm good enough. Am I good parent? Did I make the right choices? Do my clothes look okay? Do I speak too much, too loud? These insecure thoughts can run around and around my head for hours until I feel like crawling under a rock, far from anyone. I know my insecurities have sabotaged so many opportunities both personally and professionally.

Luckily we can adjust a few things in our lives to break free from insecurity. We can embrace ourselves, understanding that everyone has their own path to walk and their own flaws. We are all humans sharing this planet and are bound to make mistakes, and that's okay.

We can also embrace a growth mindset with setting goals, maybe changing certain habits that detract from our quality of life. Setting goals doesn't have to be a daunting task, and once you've found your rhythm habits fall right into place. What might sound uncomfortable is challenging negative thoughts and feelings instead of avoiding them. I know I really struggle with my negative thoughts, for me its almost like having a toxic friend live in my head, tearing me down at every chance. Allowing yourself a bit of self compassion can go a long way toward freeing yourself from feelings of insecurity. Negative thoughts are common, everyone has them,. We can take those thoughts and flip them. Personally, I like to imagine I'm chatting with a good friend. Would I let anyone talk to my friend the way I talk to myself? Absolutely not. What would I say to my friend if they came to me with similar thoughts or feelings?

A great place to start with any change is emotional support, Geranium (Pelargonium x asperum) contains properties that are great for supporting feelings of security and stability. This oil contains high amounts of Esters, meaning it can have a soothing effect on the nervous system, helping with grounding techniques and meditation. Geranium has also been linked to an antidepressant effect (Perry and Perry 2006), and just happens to be amazing for the skin, containing components that can help soothe pain.

Of course, changing thoughts or behavior also changes the brain, creating new neural pathways. Which takes plenty of energy for the brain, and plenty of time for you. Using tools to support these changes can help make the journey easier. My Metanoia Initiative can help you find the tools and habits that fit right in with your goals by taking a holistic view, seeing you as a whole with several parts that all need individual support.

We are all unique individuals on our own paths, comparison is the enemy of peace. Comparison can lead us down a difficult road with any number of difficulties. And that's the purpose for my Metanoia Initiative, to help members find their way to a lasting peace build on strong habits supported by techniques rooted in neuroscience and artisan aromatherapy products completely unique to each member.

At the end of the day we're all struggling with hidden battles. Remember, a little compassion can go a long way.

I hope you have a peaceful day today, dear reader.
