All my life I have felt a connection to gardening, and everything that comes with it. I love how I can feel how hard it is to break ground the first time, the effort to peel back the earth and dig deep to plant brand new additions to a garden. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the literal fruits of my labor bloom and grow. I even love the tiny visitors my garden attracts; bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, frogs, and worms are all welcome patrons in the garden.

Gardening has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It was through gardening that I discovered herbalism. Personally, I don't have a great history with medications. I absolutely use medicine when I need it, but anyone close to me knows I will go out of my way to avoid taking anything. I want to be clear, this is not out of fear of anything. I just don't like what certain medications do to my digestive system. I will preach balance until my face is blue. Plants and essential oils cannot help with certain conditions. It is so important to see and listen to doctors and medical professionals. I see herbalism as a great tool for basic first aid around the house. Honey for sore throats. A dab of witch hazel on scrapes and bug bites. Mint for tummy troubles.

Through herbalism I found essential oils. Immediately I was fascinated. Just the extraction processes alone are incredible! I go into detail about how oils are extracted from plants in an earlier blog, "How Essential are Essential Oils?" When I learned just how versatile oils are, I was hooked for good. Salves, lotions, diffusing, body butters- the list goes on for miles! I have learned so much while taking my certification course through Aromahead Institute. Right down to the molecules that make up essential oils. Finally I have found a path combining all of my strengths and joys. Plants, helping people, constant learning, science. I love it all so deeply.

I know there are people who may question my sanity when I say how thrilled I was when I learned I would have to write a lengthy research paper as part of the certification process. I didn't start this path for research, that's just icing on the cake. That cake is pretty exciting too. My entire life I knew I wanted to help people. I instinctively knew I was a healer. On every level I just connected to the idea of helping and serving others. Growing up in church, we were required to serve in various roles throughout the church. I ran the coffee booth, helped in the nursery, and served as an acolyte. Later in a different church, as part of the membership process we were asked to choose a role in the church and I choose the more behind the scenes approach. My role was to keep the coffee flowing, the water tanks full, and other seemingly small tasks. I thrived in that role. Knowing I played a part in other people having a better day sparked a flame in me. And through aromatherapy, knowing which oils to turn to and how to use them in a wide variety of applications brings me such joy.
I am not exaggerating when I say I use essential oils every day. I use oils to boost morale, to contribute to a peaceful atmosphere, to ground myself when I'm having a hard day. I am not exaggerating when I say essential oils have change my life for the better. I chose aromatherapy to help as many people as possible. In elementary school I used to call myself a peacemaker and a healer. Growing up, I met so many people from all walks of life; watching my mom give them tools to succeed and grow as they came in and out of the shelter she founded. In high school I excelled in the chemistry course. Throughout my life I have bent over backwards to help my friends with their struggles. From my love of gardening and science, to my joy in serving others I know aromatherapy is my calling. I am so thrilled to share this journey with you, dear reader.
